Some people cross your path for a moment, others for a season, and others for a lifetime—but all of them leave something behind. Matt Reall is one of those people who has shown me what it means to be consistent, connectable, and working hard to make an impact on the world.
I remember the first time I heard Matt's name. I was in Warrington, England, grasping the ropes of what it meant to be a missionary. My trainer and other missionaries would mention a new missionary named Elder Reall. They would talk about how he seemed personable, took a real interest in their lives, and overall left them feeling like they were on top of the world.
By the time I finally met him, those impressions proved true. Matt had a gift for connection—he didn’t just talk to people, he engaged with them in a way that made you feel like you mattered. He carried a sense of joy and energy that was contagious, but it was grounded in a deeper consistency: he showed up with the same sincerity no matter who you were or what the situation looked like.
I remember one moment in particular when we were serving together in Barrow-in-Furness. Earlier that week, we had set a date for a friend to be baptized. But then one night we got a call from his father, saying his son would not be baptized into the church. We were devastated. This was someone we had connected with, taught, and supported—only to watch that chapter close in a way we hadn’t hoped. Yet from that experience, I saw Matt work harder. We made plans to keep bonding with our friend, to show him we still cared, and to reach out to even more people with renewed energy. That experience didn’t just strengthen our service—it strengthened our friendship. To this day, Matt and I still talk regularly, and I value those conversations deeply.
What I learned from Matt is that true impact isn’t always about grand gestures. Sometimes it’s about being steady, approachable, and genuinely caring. His example reminded me that when you combine consistency with kindness, you can lift others in ways that last far longer than the moment.
Life has a way of moving people in and out of our stories, but that doesn’t erase the chapters they help write. Matt will always be someone I respect for his consistency, his ability to connect, and his steady drive to make a difference.
