In our world, there is an epidemic of loneliness that stems from the need of feeling loved by friends, siblings, parents, or God. Often, the absence of this cherished need for love is the tipping point where we lose all hope in life. Now, you may not be feeling this way right now, but may I suggest a soothing remedy to this plead for feeling loved. That answer being ‘The Chosen.’
In a historical and narrative fashion, ‘The Chosen’ presents a different view to the journey in which we take to Jesus Christ. While presenting characters who struggle with difficulties that we hope to not bare, it gives us a chance to see our struggles through their lives until these characters come to know Jesus Christ. These journeys from grief to peace are the soothing remedy that we seek in times of need.
In ‘The Chosen’, Matthew’s smarts allow him to partner with the Rome Empire as a tax collector, giving him a sea of money; however, this causes more grief than joy for Matthew. During this time, tax collectors were seen as a traitor to the Jewish people. They were often bullied, yelled at, and rejected by society. Adding more to Matthew’s burden, his family views him as a swine covered in filth, and casts him out of the family circle.

Much like Matthew’s journey, Mary’s journey starts in a similar state of deprivation. Suffering from demonic possession, Mary is cast from society and drinks away the pain of the past. Decisions of sinning and of wrong wallow up in her mind, causing a grief that never seems to vanish from her life. Old memories tied with old places make the world a difficult place to live, and Mary must walk through it.
Finally, Simon’s journey may be one that we all relate to more. While bearing the difficulty of finding a way to pay his taxes, Simon begins to dig a hole in which he cannot fill. From betraying his fellow fishermen to hiding secrets from his wife, Simon’s mistakes begin to pile on top of him. In a final effort to provide for his wife and pay off the taxes, Simon fishes all night, but catches nothing. The final straw that Simon could draw.
These journeys evoke a resonating emotion that resides deep within us. Stirring feelings of despair, hopelessness, or loneliness, we come to witness the pain that these characters have been through. With this connection instilled within us, ‘The Chosen’ transforms these character’s lives as they find solace in Jesus Christ. This pivotal moment not only offers redemption for the characters but symbolizes the soothing remedy for the wounds we carry in our lives, highlighting the restorative power of faith and the possibility of renewed hope. At this moment, we come to realize the source that can help our burdens become light.
While this rich narrative encapsulates our minds, critics, however, see a story that has added elements, making them lose their interest. Hoping for an accurate portrayal of the characters from the bible, these critics miss the mark of ‘The Chosen’. The purpose is not to create a perfectly historical show, rather, their purpose is to point others towards Christ. Getting lost in the history; we too will miss the heartfelt connection with Christ.
In all, I implore you to embark on the journey of finding soothing remedy from Jesus Christ by watching the beloved show ‘The Chosen.’ This show will deepen your love for Jesus Christ, and it will show you the way to heal the wound of loneliness that resides deep within our hearts. Don’t keep yourself from finding rest.
