Settling the Score: The Definitive Rocket League Tournament Cup Drop Rates (35,000+ Drops Analyzed)

I analyzed over 35,000 tournament cup drops so you don't have to guess where to spend your credits anymore.

Back in 2020, I set out to solve one of the most debated questions in Rocket League: What are the actual drop rates for Tournament Cups? I built a massive spreadsheet, calculated the odds, and shared my findings with the community.

The data quickly spread. It was picked up, repurposed, and cited in major Reddit threads. The problem? My name was scrubbed from the conversation, and I was never credited as the original author of the definitive Rocket League stats project.

Now, in 2026, I’m revisiting this project to close the book on it entirely. This time, I didn't just bring a spreadsheet—I brought automation. I wanted to build a dataset so massive and definitive that the drop rates could no longer be debated.

Here is exactly how I did it, and more importantly, the actual drop rates for every cup in Rocket League.

The Methodology: Automating the Grind

To get a sample size large enough to produce 95% confidence intervals with margins of error under 1%, I created a custom Python automation tool: the Tournament Cup Detection Script.

You can check out the source code on my GitHub (DallinCreates).

The script pulls YouTube videos of massive tournament cup openings, parses the footage for drop events, filters out duplicates, and logs the exact cup type, item rarity, painted status, and certified status. I ran this script across 850+ videos (excluding anything under 5 minutes to ensure high-density data).

The Result: 35,296 verified, individual item drops.

Here is how the pool broke down:

  • Prospect Cups: 15,744
  • Challenger Cups: 6,273
  • All-Star Cups: 4,346
  • Chromatic Cups: 3,561
  • Unknown/Filtered: 5,372

The Raw Data: Base Drop Rates by Cup

Let’s look at the raw, direct pull percentages. If you just open a cup and hope for the best, these are your exact odds.

Prospect Cup (1,200 Credits)

The baseline cup. Great for sheer volume.

RarityDrop %Margin of Error (95%)
Uncommon62.19%± 0.76%
Rare19.22%± 0.62%
Very Rare12.41%± 0.52%
Import4.44%± 0.32%
Exotic1.44%± 0.19%
Black Market0.30%± 0.09%

Challenger Cup (4,000 Credits)

The middle ground. Uncommon drops plummet, but is it worth the premium?

RarityDrop %Margin of Error (95%)
Uncommon27.82%± 1.11%
Rare26.08%± 1.09%
Very Rare23.34%± 1.05%
Import15.88%± 0.90%
Exotic5.64%± 0.57%
Black Market1.24%± 0.27%

All-Star Cup (12,000 Credits)

The high roller. No Uncommons, no Rares.

RarityDrop %Margin of Error (95%)
Very Rare38.40%± 1.45%
Import27.24%± 1.32%
Exotic25.26%± 1.29%
Black Market9.09%± 0.85%

Chromatic Cup (20,000 Credits)

The ultimate cup. Guaranteed painted drops.

RarityDrop %Margin of Error (95%)
Very Rare35.83%± 1.57%
Import30.36%± 1.51%
Exotic25.22%± 1.43%
Black Market8.59%± 0.92%

Painted & Certified Odds

If you are hunting for painted or certified gear, your odds scale heavily depending on the cup you purchase.

CupPainted %Certified %
Prospect19.83%10.23%
Challenger25.11%14.32%
All-Star27.13%18.13%
Chromatic100.00%10.25%

Takeaway: The Chromatic cup does exactly what it promises—a 100% painted drop rate. However, if you are looking for certified items, the All-Star cup surprisingly yields the highest percentage at 18.13%.

The True Cost (Factoring in Trade-Ups)

Raw drop rates are only half the battle. Because Rocket League allows you to trade up 5 lower-tier items for 1 higher-tier item, the volume of items you get matters.

I ran the numbers assuming you relentlessly trade up every single drop you get below your target rarity (acting as a 5-for-1 fodder funnel). Here is the effective credit cost per item rarity, factoring in the trade-up savings:

Target RarityProspectChallengerAll-StarChromatic
Very Rare6,403 cr13,483 cr31,247 cr55,815 cr
Import14,655 cr18,339 cr34,360 cr53,300 cr
Exotic39,048 cr39,978 cr37,210 cr61,120 cr
Black Market130,505 cr123,285 cr77,227 cr132,122 cr

The Final Verdict: Which Cup Should You Buy?

With over 35,000 drops analyzed, the math allows us to definitively answer the community's oldest question. Your spending strategy should depend entirely on what you want:

  1. If you want a Black Market or Exotic: Buy the All-Star Cup (12k). Do not waste your credits on anything else. Factoring in trade-ups, generating a Black Market through the All-Star cup costs almost half the credits (~77k) compared to grinding it out through Prospect (~130k) or Challenger (~123k) cups.
  2. If you want Very Rares, Imports, or Trade-Up Fodder: Buy the Prospect Cup (1.2k). The sheer volume of items you get for 1,200 credits makes it the most mathematically efficient way to farm the lower and middle tiers.
  3. If you want Painted items: Buy the Chromatic Cup (20k). It is incredibly expensive if you just want Black Markets, but its 100% painted guarantee makes it the only logical choice for painted item hunters.
  4. The Challenger Cup (4k): Avoid it. It is mathematically the awkward middle child. It is too expensive for volume farming and doesn't have the high-end odds to compete with the All-Star cup.

Thanks to everyone in the Rocket League community who continues to push the limits of this game, and I hope this finally puts the drop rate debate to rest.
